RSL and SDG (UN)

17 Goals for People, for Planet

The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. The 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals.

Today, progress is being made in many places, but, overall, action to meet the Goals is not yet advancing at the speed or scale required. 2020 needs to usher in a decade of ambitious action to deliver the Goals by 2030.

With just under ten years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, world leaders at the SDG Summit in September 2019 called for a Decade of Action and delivery for sustainable development, and pledged to mobilize financing, enhance national implementation and strengthen institutions to achieve the Goals by the target date of 2030, leaving no one behind.

The UN Secretary-General called on all sectors of society to mobilize for a decade of action on three levels: global action to secure greater leadership, more resources and smarter solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals; local action embedding the needed transitions in the policies, budgets, institutions and regulatory frameworks of governments, cities and local authorities; and people action, including by youth, civil society, the media, the private sector, unions, academia and other stakeholders, to generate an unstoppable movement pushing for the required transformations.

Numerous civil society leaders and organizations have also called for a “super year of activism” to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, urging world leaders to redouble efforts to reach the people furthest behind, support local action and innovation, strengthen data systems and institutions, rebalance the relationship between people and nature, and unlock more financing for sustainable development.

At the core of the 2020-2030 decade is the need for action to tackle growing poverty, empower women and girls, and address the climate emergency.

More people around the world are living better lives compared to just a decade ago. More people have access to better healthcare, decent work, and education than ever before. But inequalities and climate change are threatening to undo the gains. Investment in inclusive and sustainable economies can unleash significant opportunities for shared prosperity. And the political, technological and financial solutions are within reach. But much greater leadership and rapid, unprecedented changes are needed to align these levers of change with sustainable development objectives. #ForPeopleForPlanet

Understanding the demands of retail markets

Global product sourcing has been essential to retailers’ commercial success for many years. Achieving commercial success in the retail market is tough. As well as extensive choice and high quality, consumers expect the products they order when and how they want them. RSL knows that meeting these expectations requires robust supply chains with the flexibility to adapt to constantly changing needs. And that’s why so many of the world’s most respected retailers trust RSL to transport their cargo 365 days of the year.

Scale, equipment and port range ideal for retailers

Whatever the core products, wherever they need to be shipped, RSL has the scale, global port range and experience to support your retail needs. Our extensive inventory of equipment means RSL can tailor its services across:

  • Dry cargo.
  • Reefer cargo.
  • Food-grade cargo.
  • Breakbulk and out-of-gauge cargo.
  • Inland transport – intermodal transport and haulage.

This, combined with our commodity expertise, means your cargo will be expertly handled at every stage of its global journey with RSL.

Customer service excellence for retail clients

In shops and stores around the world retailers are expected to deliver real customer service excellence. We believe that our retail customers have every right to expect the same exemplary standards of service from their transport and logistics partners. That’s why at RSL we work hard to build productive, long-term relationships with our retail clients. We take the time to get to understand their individual business needs and pressure points. That way as our customers’ needs evolve; our service evolves along with them.

CARBON CALCULATOR

ACCURATE INFORMATION ON THE CARBON FOOTPRINT OF YOUR CARGO TRANSPORTATION.

RSL is committed to further reducing emissions and supporting sustainable practices that flow throughout the supply chain. RSL Carbon Calculator allows our customers to measure and understand the carbon footprint of their cargo transportation. With the Carbon Calculator, you can now easily keep track of your carbon footprint as part of the broader efforts to manage emissions and decarbonise supply chains. RSL Carbon Calculator follows the recommended Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) guidelines and is based on the latest values of RSL’s 2019 scorecard. The standard calculation for the sea transport on every trade lane provides results for the Tank-to-Wake (TTW) CO2 emissions based on 70% utilization of the vessel. The CO2 equivalent (CO2e) combined with Well-to-Wake (WTW) lifecycle emissions are available on demand.

The intermodal results (Truck/Train/Barge) are based on the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) greenhouse gas reporting: conversion factors 2019. For more information or for a more extensive calculation, please contact: sustainability@rsl.com. The information provided is to allow our Customers to have an easy access to Bill of Lading Number information to complete their ISF filings with US Customs in a timely manner and in accordance to the guidelines for the ISF regulations. You will find the BL number and container numbers assigned at the time of booking from the foreign party. This information is subject to change at any time in accordance to the requirements asked by the BOOKING PARTY.

This is to advise you that RSL is fully aware that many of our Non-AMS NVOCC's intend to start making, or have started to make, their own Importer Security Filing (ISF). According to the ISF Rule, the ISF filing must be done at the lowest House Bill of Lading number level, but referencing the RSL bill lading number(s) as Carrier. Therefore, it is our aim to provide you with the RSL Bill of Lading number(s) when the booking is confirmed by RSL, in order to facilitate a smooth ISF filing for you.

For consolidated shipments with multiple parties in a single container, or where there are multiple parties involved in a single booking (i.e. several containers under a single booking, but allocated to different parties), please keep in mind that each party needs to be declared to US CUSTOMS inside the ISF filing, with a separate RSL Bill of Lading number for each of them. You should ensure that your instructions to RSL concerning the number of parties are clear, and RSL will then provide you with an additional RSL Bill of Lading number for each party. However, you must indicate, both to RSL and in your ISF filing, which cargo(es) you have assigned to each RSL Bill of Lading number provided to you by RSL.

Please note that reasonable efforts have been made to ensure that the service content is accurate and up-to-date, however all information is given without any guarantee or representation as to its accuracy and under no circumstances whatsoever shall RSL be liable for any direct, incidental, consequential, indirect, special or other damages, costs, losses or liabilities arising from reliance on any of the information or materials contained on the RSL website.

SMART TECHNOLOGY AND SMART SHIPPING DURING COVID -19 PANDEMIC SIYUTATIONS:

SMART CONTAINERS -2020-2021….

IT IS MUCH MORE THAN JUST KNOWING THE POSITION OF YOUR CONTAINERS ON A MAP.

COVID 19: SMART CONTAINERS CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Since 2018, RSL has been actively collaborating with preferred partner Traxens to offer smart container and IoT tracking solutions to customers in search of more visibility of cargo flow and container conditions. The Traxens device, which shares data about the container, can help RSL's customers to follow the ever-changing COVID-19 environment more closely and be better informed about the impact of daily supply chain disruptions. By providing real-time visibility data for global maritime shipments, customers can identify exactly when, where, and why disruptions and delays occur. Building on this extra visibility, customers can streamline their decision-making process, share vital updates with third parties and collaborate further with their end-customers. To help our customers manage through this crisis and emerge stronger at the end, RSL, with Traxens, is reducing the price of smart container and data services.
